Abstract:The relationship between softness and physical properties in flue-cured tobacco of 150 tobacco samples from Jiangxi province in 2014 was studied by path analysis and stepwise regression analysis. The results indicated that leaf thickness, elongation and pull showed big influence on softness of upper leaves of flue cured tobacco, the direct path-coefficients were 0.837,–0.632 and 0.612, respectively. Leaf elongation, density and stem content showed big influence on softness of middle leaves of flue cured tobacco, the direct path-coefficients were –0.699,0.674 and –0.654, respectively. single leaf weight, filling value, and thickness showed big influence on softness of bottom leaves of flue cured tobacco, the direct path-coefficients were 0.837,–0.465 and –0.453, respectively. Multiple linear regression relationship existed between flue-cured tobacco softness and physical properties, and the multiple stepwise regression equations established on softness for different leaf positions of tobacco versus physical properties were of significant level and fitted pretty well.
